Although we can think on many levels and our actions may or may not agree, there is one thing that I know:

O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Bible: KJV Mathew 12:34

Should we act and live out life only in our mind – and what we think reflects the whole, we are negating the truth that we hold in our heart .
I would proclaim to you that what we store up in our heart is the abundance of what we value and therefore our life standard.

So, I might rephrase what was said to: As a man’s heart yields, there in is his treasure and his legacy.

I read this quote somewhere, once. I don’t remember what it is from, but it seems relevant:
“That’s the thing Robert Frost never mentioned. Sometimes the road less traveled is just as shitty and miserable as the one everyone else decided to take. Sometimes trying to be all smart and independent ends up fucking you raw.”

“…Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” – Philippians 4:8

Right before this verse it talks all about worry and anxiety, and emphasizes the importance of our thought life. Worry, I believe, is crippling to the mind. Your quote, “A thought becomes an action…”, goes well with these verses.

What I take away from this is how powerful the effect of thought is on circumstance. A good saying is “A thought becomes an action, an action becomes a habit, a habit become your destiny.”

I like the analogy they give. Thinking of the mind as a garden and keeping weeds (impure thoughts) out. This reading goes on to say “The universe does not favour the greedy, the dishonest, the vicious, although on the mere surface it may sometimes appear to do so; it helps the honest, the magnamanimous, the virtuous. All the great Teachers of the ages have declared this in varying forms, and to prove and know it, the individual has but to persist in making himself more and more virtuous by lifting up his thoughts.”
